Young Mediator Capacity Building Activities

In the framework of PRIORITY project, KAINOTOMIA has implemented the “Young Mediator Capacity Building” Training in two rounds, by which the first dated from 17th of March 2021 to the 19th of March 2021, while the second took place from 7th of April 2021 to the 9th of April 2021.  Participants were 23 and 18 correspondingly, young people with migrant or refugee background, or youth with fewer opportunities or youth workers that come in close relation with the above-mentioned target group. Under the circumstances imposed due to Covid-19 and according to the restrictions of the Greek government, we were not able to implement the training on site, thus the trainings were held online through zoom platform. The thematic and all material used for the successful implementation of the trainings were used by the deliverables of the PRIORITY project: Research Report and Analysis of Best Practices (WP2), PRIOIRITY methodology and E-Toolkit (WP3), and the How to PRIORTIZE Interactive E-book (WP4).

 The division of the topics presented and explained through the three-day trainings were (1) How to be a good Mediator, (2) The power of Intercultural Mediation and (3) Culture and Conflict. Apart from the theoretical knowledge gained, participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences and feelings, fact that gave the trainings a more experiential approach to the topic of Cultural Mediation. The “Young Mediator Capacity Building” training’s aim to empower young people in theoretical and practical level in order to help people who deal with incidents of exclusion and racism in host communities was fully achieved according to the participants. In particular, they stated that they felt empowered and confident to face and combat incidents of exclusion and discrimination in the future.
