Empowering Youth to Drive Sustainable Development: Launch of Generation SDG

The GEN SDG Partnership, consisted of leading organisations across Europe, proudly announces the launch of “Generation SDG,” a groundbreaking project aimed at empowering young people to take an active role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This innovative initiative is set to transform youth engagement in sustainable development through education, advocacy, and community action.

Project Background

Generation SDG addresses the urgent need to engage young people in sustainable development efforts. With over 1.2 billion youth worldwide, their active participation is crucial for the success of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This project recognises the potential of young people as agents of change and aims to provide them with the tools and resources needed to drive positive impacts in their communities.

Objectives

The primary objectives of Generation SDG are to:

  • Increase SDG Awareness and Understanding: Educate young people about the 17 SDGs, their significance, and their global relevance.
  • Support Youth Advocacy and Engagement: Empower young people to become effective advocates for sustainable development.
  • Promote Active Citizenship and Social Responsibility: Encourage youth to engage in addressing local and global challenges.
  • Foster Climate Action and Environmental Stewardship: Focus on SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) to inspire environmental responsibility.
  • Inspire Youth-Led Community-Based Initiatives: Motivate young advocates to lead community projects that contribute to the SDGs.

Activities

Generation SDG will engage 20 young people aged 15 to 24 from Spain, Ireland, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, and Romania in various activities, including:

  • E-Modules: An 18-hour online learning program covering each SDG and youth advocacy.
  • Youth Advocacy Toolkit: Practical resources for youth advocates to contribute to the SDGs.
  • Virtual Collaborative Spaces: Online meetings fostering cross-cultural dialogue and collaborative learning.
  • Local Events: Community-based events promoting the SDGs and youth initiatives.

Expected Results

The project aims to produce significant outcomes, including:

  • Development of 18 hours of online learning content on the SDGs.
  • Creation of a comprehensive Youth Action and Participation Toolkit.
  • Hosting community events engaging 180 people across six countries.
  • Increased youth-led initiatives and advocacy for sustainable development.

Impact

Generation SDG aligns with the European Green Deal and the European Pillar of Social Rights, promoting environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and active citizenship. By fostering a transnational exchange of knowledge and best practices, the project will amplify the impact of SDG-related initiatives across Europe, inspiring a new generation of socially responsible and globally aware citizens.
